G & L Futures so far

THE JOURNEY SO FAR

Learning through doing has been at the core of the Futures Projects undertaken by the Year 9 students. The focus throughout the Lower School has been to engage students in developing evidence based ideas to different scenarios. Much of this work has engaged different ways of understanding problems, thinking critically and creatively and developing appropriate and convincing ways to communicate. Here are some areas of content that students have explored…

Students participated in groups in an iterative ideation process developing a sense of target audience, financial planning and marketing acumen in bringing to life a market stall.

Students undertook a new drama course where they focused on collaboration, self regulation and empathy in Year 7 moving on to consider the insightful works of Adam Grant and Think Again in Year 8 including consideration of Imposter Syndrome, Dunning Kruger and the concept of the Rethinking Cycle versus the Overconfidence Cycle.

The 16 week food technology course engaged students, again working in teams, in a full design thinking process in developing evidence based ideas in answer to the live issue that Chartwells posed in developing a healthy break time snack for teenagers. Students conducted customer interviews, developed prototype products, iterated based on feedback and worked to produce final snacks.

Enrichment course (4 weeks so far); change the world with one idea which brings positive impact to a sector of the community. A focus on problem/solution fit and product market fit looking through the lens of feasible, viable and desirable ideas.

Alternative reality enterprise challenge. Developing a strategy to optimise revenue, customer satisfaction and employee engagement for a small business.

Cheesecake entrepreneurship sprint; leading teams of local Year 6 students in developing solutions to a healthy dessert founder’s current issue for new product development ideas.
